One of the most easily identifiable polypores, and the most ubiquitous, this multicolored mushroom is recognized throughout the world. Native to tropical, subtropical, and temperate zones, this species is highly adaptive, growing on the widest assortment of woods.


You receive ready colonised rye grain spawn for inoculation of convenient fruiting substrate. Larger quantities for commercial mushroom growing on request. Recommended only for experienced cultivators!

About the Mushroom

Scientific name: Trametes versicolor

 

Synonyms: Turkey Tail, Many-Colored Polypore, Kawaratake, Yun Zhi, Cloud mushroom, coriolus versicolor, polyporus versicolor


Natural habitat:

The 2 - 8 cm big mushroom is the most common polypore on dead hardwood.

In Europe most common on the European Beech but also grows on oak, tan, alder, poplar or aspen.

Appropriate substrate:
Hardwood (most suitable: oak, beech)

Usage:
Vital mushroom, decoration

It is used in traditional Chinese medicine and contains compound polysaccharid-peptides (PSP) and protein-bound polysaccharides.

The mushroom is sometimes used for decoration purposes in floristics.
