Jack-O'-Lantern Mushroom - Omphalotus olearius - SPAWN for CULTIVATION ON Wood logs
Syn.: Glowing Mushroom
THIS MUSHROOM IS NOT SUITABLE FOR HUMAN OR ANIMAL CONSUMPTION!
Luminescent mushroom for decoration. The jack-o'-lantern mushroom's fruiting body (its stem and cap) has an orange color. Its bioluminescence, a blue-green color, is only observable in low light conditions when the eye becomes dark-adapted. Not the entire mushroom glows, only the gills do so, this is also called "foxfire". This is due to an enzyme called luciferase acting upon a compound called luciferin, leading to the emission of light, much as fireflies do when glowing. The thin cap is yellow to a deep orange and has a length of 6 to 10 cm. The young cap is curved and gets more and more bell-mouthed. The rim is often rolled up (to the gills) and the derma seems smooth. It's often noch accrued centrally. The stem can be 5 to 15 cm long, is orange to gingerbrown and is reduced to the basis. It could be mistaken as an edible chanterelle mushroom, but like most glowing mushrooms, the Omphalotus olearius is deadly poisonous!

Jack-O'-Lantern Mushroom - Omphalotus olearius - Mushroom spawn for wood logs 1 autoclave bag approx. 3 kg - 6 liter Suitable for inoculation of 25 to 30 linear meters of wood.
You receive ready colonized mushroom spawn made from organic raw material (wood, rye bran from organic farming) for inoculation of wood logs. Suitable woods are: oleaster, olivetree, oak, chestnut and beech. This strain is fruiting from summer to autumn.
For quantities of 10 or more logs inoculation with sawdust spawn is usually more efficient than working with dowels. Sawdust is a byproduct and more cost efficient and environmentaly sustainable than dowels that have to be produced. Because of this large quantities of spawn can be produced for a lower price. Sawdust spawn is suitable for the borehole inoculation method and the cutting inoculation method. Expected harvest yield is up to 10 % of the fresh woods weight divided on several flushes over 3 to 5 years.
For the borehole-method we recommend the usage of a mushroom drill, and an inoculation stick or a hand inoculator. Larger quantities for commercial mushroom growing on request.
