Organic Button mushroom, white - Agaricus bisporus - Grain spawn
Synonyms: brown portobello, brown champignon mushroom
The button mushroom is the most commonly cultivated edible mushroom in the world. Originally, this mushroom was brown/cream-coloured. Through mutation, the button mushroom became white in colour, making it an albino. The albino variety has a less pronounced flavour, but is nevertheless more widespread than the cream-coloured mushroom.
It is found in the temperate climate zone throughout the northern hemisphere. In Europe alone, over 40 species are known to grow in the wild. Mushrooms are dung dwellers and can be found in suitable weather conditions from May to November, especially in cow pastures or compost heaps.
