Our substrates are produced FRESH for you, so the production time is approximately 3 - 6 weeks.
Vermiculite medium, 20 l
Vermiculite medium, 20 l
This mineral product is ideal in mushroom cultivation for the production of substrat and as a covering soil / casing.
Vermiculite absorbs a lot of water. It stores moisture more than perlit, which releases moisture into the environment more easily.
This natural mineral is extracted from slate slabs in open-cast mining. A firing process expands the slate 10 to 30 times and turns it into very porous, light vermiculite.
This grain size is best suited for use in mushroom cultivation.
Grain size: 2 - 4 mm
Density: 80 - 90 kg/m³
Use for the production of mushroom substrate:
Vermiculite is an excellent water reservoir and therefore regulates moisture and loosens up. This is why Vermiculit is an excellent water reservoir and therefore regulates moisture and loosens up. This is why substrat is mixed in.
Use as top layer / casing:
Depending on the mushroom's preference, the fully grown spawn is covered with a layer of vermiculite before fruiting. This process is called casing.
This prevents the fungal mycelium and fruit from drying out.
When used as a covering layer, vermiculite also protects the substrate from harmful germs, foreign spores and germs. As it contains no nutrients, nothing undesirable can grow on vermiculite.
Advantages of casing with vermiculite:
- Low nutrient top layer
- Contamination protection
- Moisture regulation
- Surface enlargement
- Support for positive microorganisms growth
